The project deals with the visual translation of the audio track "Visions Remix" by Felix Raphael, Bebetta & CIOZ to a visual stage. It revolves around: How can schematic sound elements, rhythmic offsets and temporary entering sounds contained in the piece be united in a model of visualization.
Visualisation
Idea
Building a scheme in order to break it - this observation represented the starting point for the final visualization. The "shell model", consisting of circular shapes laid one inside the other, convinces by its capacity to assign a "stage" to all sound actors within a complex.
Conception
Plucks
Pluck describes the electronically foregrounded main sound element. At the beginning it is in the centre of the shell model, but then moves up or down depending on the tone. The dark colour and clear contour is adapted to the sharp character of the tone.
Stretched Plucks
The vertical and horizontal scaling respectively visualizes the long stretched plucks.
Kick
The outer shells represent the beat of the kick. Per kick, the opacity of the shells alternately increases and draws the double punch in the outermost two. The kick also runs through almost the entire visualisation.
Wobble
The presentation of the wobble can be subtly displayed with the gradient shell. The slight back and forth movement of the gradient picks up the rather background element well.
Sound effects
The temporarily occurring sound effects are visualised by unpredictable changes in the basic structure of the whole visulisation.
Concept
Above all, however, a movement pattern can be established within the shell model, which can then be broken up by extraneous sound elements in the further course. "Form mutations" escape from the strict structure of the bowls and enrich the enrich the composition with visual variety.
Process
Semantic differential
The semantic differential resulted in a first categorical classification of the song. This impression centered around the terms technical, schematic, reduced, loud, and large/dimensional.
Definition of sound elements
A collection of adjectives for the individual sound elements should assist in characterizing the elements and finding a corresponding visual translation. The adjectives were collected collectively at the beginning of the song analysis and hierarchized.
Analog sketches
On the basis of the initial sketches, a wide variety of variants can be created for the representation of sound elements that have been worked out. Ideas are generated by the predefined parameters of a sound element like shape or size.
Digital sketches
In the process of the further development of the shell model, various shape variations were created for the occurring sound elements. These variations were, however, either discarded or modified in the further process.
